Matariki: A Time to Pause, Reflect and Begin Again

Reflecting on the Year That Has Been

Matariki encourages us to acknowledge the people, experiences and lessons that have shaped us.

Reflection isn't about dwelling on the past, it's about recognising how far we've come.

Perhaps you've overcome challenges you never imagined you would. Maybe you've learnt to set healthier boundaries, discovered new strengths, or simply survived a difficult season. Every experience leaves its imprint, just as every emotion leaves its mark within us.

Taking time to honour those moments creates space for healing.

The Mind and Body Remember

At The Soul Library, I often see clients carrying stress they didn't even realise they were holding.

Our bodies are remarkable storytellers. Tension in the shoulders, digestive discomfort, restless sleep, headaches or fatigue can sometimes be our body's way of asking us to pay attention.

When we pause, whether through reflexology, quiet reflection or simply taking a deep breath we begin to notice what we've been carrying.

Healing doesn't always require dramatic change. Often it begins with awareness.

Planting New Intentions

Matariki is also a season of hope.

Rather than making endless resolutions, perhaps ask yourself:

  • What would I like more of this year?

  • What am I ready to let go of?

  • How can I care for myself as kindly as I care for those around me?

  • What brings me peace?

Small, intentional steps often create the biggest shifts.
