How Many Kinesiology Sessions Do I Need?

One of the questions I'm often asked when someone is considering kinesiology is: “How many sessions will I need?”

The honest answer is that everyone is different. But when someone is new to EMK, I generally recommend starting with a minimum of three sessions.

Why three? Because one session is really just the beginning. It gives us an opportunity to see what's showing up for you, start working with it and allow your body and nervous system some space to process. The second session gives us the chance to check in. And the third allows us to look at what has changed, what still needs attention and how you can continue supporting yourself at home.

Session One - The Beginning

The first session is about getting to know what's going on for you.

We start with what you'd like to work on, and then use muscle testing to help guide us through the session.

There may be emotions, patterns, energetic imbalances or other areas that come to the surface.

I often think of this first session as the “download” - gathering the information, finding where we need to focus and beginning the process of releasing what your body is ready to let go of.

It can be a lot to take in, so I don't expect everything to happen in one session.

Session Two - The Check-In

The second session is an opportunity to check in with how you're feeling and what you've noticed since your first session. Sometimes you'll notice changes straight away. Sometimes it's more subtle.

You might find you're responding differently to a situation, feeling calmer around something that previously bothered you, noticing a change in your thoughts or simply feeling a little more like yourself.

We'll see what your body is showing us now and continue from there. And sometimes the second session uncovers another layer. That's completely normal. I often describe this work as peeling back the layers of an onion. We work with what's ready to be explored rather than trying to force everything to happen at once.

Session Three - Bringing It Together

By the third session, we've had a little more time to see how things are settling and what has shifted. This session is about bringing things together. We can revisit what we've been working on, address anything that's still showing up and explore what might help you maintain the changes you've made. This is also where we can review practical tools and home support that you can continue using between sessions and afterwards. Depending on what comes up for you, this might include things such as essential oils, simple exercises, grounding techniques, affirmations or other supportive practices.

The aim isn't for you to become dependent on sessions. It's about giving you tools you can take with you.

What happens after the three sessions?

That's completely up to you. For some people, three sessions may feel like a natural place to pause and see how they go. Others may feel there are more layers they'd like to explore. And sometimes life changes and you simply want to come back for another session further down the track. There is no set number that applies to everyone.

My recommendation of three sessions isn't about locking you into a programme or telling you that you need a certain number of treatments. It's about allowing enough time for us to begin the work, check in with what's changed and then support you with practical ways to continue it yourself.

Give yourself some space

One of the things I really encourage is allowing some breathing room between sessions. Your body doesn't necessarily finish processing everything the moment you walk out the door. You may notice little things over the following days - a different reaction, a new realisation, a shift in how you feel about something or simply a sense that something feels a little lighter. Sometimes the most valuable part of the work happens when you go home and get on with your life.

That's why I don't believe kinesiology should be about endlessly booking appointments. It's about helping you understand yourself a little better, supporting the changes you're ready to make and giving you tools that you can use in everyday life.

Three sessions is where I recommend starting.

From there, we'll see what you need - not what a package tells you that you need. If you've been curious about EMK but aren't sure where to start, you don't need to have everything figured out before you walk through the door. We can start with what's happening for you right now and take it from there.
